Back to School & Music Lessons, a Mother’s Experience

August 17, 2019

It’s back to school time, late August, 2019. I’m a lucky Mother of three girls: ages 8,6,and 9 months. This is the time of year when we look back at our summer and cannot believe how much we packed into just a few months! I am also awed by how my children have grown and matured with their summer experiences. I am feeling  a slight sense of emptiness and sadness, because all of the excitement and warm weather is coming quickly to an abrupt stop.

SCHOOL... next week!! So, I’m getting ready with the rocket launch... 17 Dynamic Music teacher schedules, and my own three children’s schedules. It will all happen, for better or for worse, it will all happen!

So now we prepare mentally and emotionally to charge full speed ahead into the new school year and new routines. There is sadness for what is ending and excitement with a bit of anxiety for what is coming.

I am looking forward to one thing in particular... something that relates to my own children’s music studies. As we get back into homework routines, it will be much easier to get back into a solid music practice routine!

When my daughters have finished their homework and have moved on to practicing piano (thanks to my chocolate bribe), and they are playing through a piano piece while I prepare dinner with the baby in the moby wrap (hopefully not kraft mac and cheese again) ... it is in these brief moments that I feel like I have “made it”.

No, I’m not a rock star or an opera star (like I once hoped I would be, LOL), but I have MADE IT! My children are calm and exercising their brains in a contented way by playing music, and all while I am taking care of their basic survival needs and preparing food for them.

These simple moments are my absolute favorite.

I truly hope that Dynamic Music can help to give other parents and children some beautiful (even if very brief), calm, special musical moments this fall amidst the hustle and of the start of the 2019/2020 school year.

May it be a good one for all of you!
